BIODEGRADABLE URNS
The Journey Earthurn is perfect for ocean or deep water burial. These biodegradable urns are engineered to float momentarily and then gracefully sink. Once on the ocean floor, the urn will break down naturally over time. Each Journey Earthurn includes a water-soluble plastic bag which dissolves on contact with water, allowing the cremated remains to be dispersed within minutes. Journey Earthurns are handmade using a centuries old paper making technique. The bark from the mulberry tree is harvested, leaving the tree alive and intact. After the bark is soaked, the resulting pulp is laid out on bamboo screens, often with floral material inlaid, and dried in the sun. Once dry the paper is used to create our beautiful and earth-friendly urns, which will break down in water or soil. |

The Passages Salt Urns are individually hand-crafted by skilled artisans from solid blocks of Himalayan Rock Salt. The salt deposits in this region are over 250 million years old and are believed to be the purest on earth. As a result of the hand-made and natural qualities of the Passages Salt Urns, each is unique in both color and finish. The urns will dissolve within 4 hours, when placed in water. Each urn comes with a biodegradable bag and tie for the cremated remains to be placed in, before being placed inside the urn. The urn should be sealed with a non-toxic paper or wood glue. The Passages Sand and Gelatin Urns are produced using sustainable materials to create an attractive and environmentally-friendly alternative for families. Included with each urn is a biodegradable bag into which the cremated remains are placed. To seal this urn slightly wet the inside of the lid. Replace and allow to dry. Each urn is shipped in a box with custom protective packaging that provides families with a convenient and discreet option for transportation. The box (and urn) will pass through airport security screenings and can fit in the overhead compartment of most commercial airliners. When placed in water, the Passages Sand and Gelatin Urns are designed and engineered to float briefly before sinking. The time each urn takes to sink will vary depending on the weight of the cremated remains and local water conditions. Once placed in water the urn will break down within three days. When buried the urn will biodegrade in three months. |

These urns can be kept at home, or placed in a cemetery niche or columbarium since they will not biodegrade or deteriorate until buried. These urns are made from a sustainable and rapidly renewable resource. Indoors, bamboo will last forever, yet bamboo is biodegradable and will break down over time. Once a bamboo urn is interred, it will last about 1 to 2 years before it naturally starts to break down. This urn is finished with natural beeswax. |
